By purchasing a possum merino garment you are contributing to the restoration of the beautiful and unique forests of New Zealand, and the birdlife within it.
Since the introduction from Australia of the brush-tail possum in the 1840s our forests have been under constant attack from these marsupials that thrive on the lush vegetation and the eggs of the birdlife found in their new home.
They have become such a problem in our country that the possum
is now our Number One pest.
But, all is not wasted as the fur of the possum is unique in that it is hollow, and after many years of research in the 1990s, it was found that when combined with merino wool a yarn was produced like no other, for its warmth, lightness, and non-pilling qualities; and so was born a new era for the New Zealand knitwear companies.
The yarn used in our knitwear range is made with at least 40% possum fur blended with 50 - 60% merino wool with some nylon added to some products for strength.
